Simplify Your Life: A Fresh Perspective on 2025

We’re officially in 2025—a year full of potential, growth, and incredible experiences waiting to unfold. As the new year begins, many of us dive into resolutions: hitting the gym, launching that business, spending more time with family, or cutting back on bad habits like smoking or staying up late binge-watching Netflix.

But this year, I want to challenge you to approach your goals differently. Instead of piling on new habits, commitments, or ambitions, consider removing things. Let’s talk about simplifying your life and creating space—both physically and mentally—to focus on what truly matters.

Why Simplification Matters

Think about it: how many times have you set the same goals year after year, only to find yourself in the same place? The problem isn’t your lack of effort or discipline—it’s the combination of pre-existing clutter in your life and you wanting to add on new habits and goals. This year, I encourage you to look at your goals through the lens of subtraction.

Start by removing activities and people that don’t bring positivity or value. Eliminate time-sucking tasks, reduce sources of unnecessary stress, and clear out anything that doesn’t serve your growth. But here’s the twist: don’t rush to fill that newly freed space with more tasks or responsibilities. Just sit with it for a while. Trust me, it’s transformative.

My Journey to Simplification

Coming from a self-proclaimed productivity nut—someone who spent most of their 20s maximizing every second—I’ve been there. My calendar was packed, my to-do lists endless. But in the second half of 2025, I made a conscious effort to say no. No to unnecessary commitments, no to random self-imposed tasks, and no to things that drained my energy. The results? A life-changing shift in perspective.

Here’s what I learned:

1. Boredom Can Be a Gift

At first, I was really fucking bored. And you might be thinking, Quest, that sounds awful. But hear me out. In that boredom, I rediscovered joy in activities I hadn’t touched in years: reading, creating videos, even just going for walks. These weren’t things I felt obligated to do anymore; I wanted to do them.

How often do we extend activities or invent errands just to avoid boredom? I’ve caught myself driving farther to a gym with better equipment or making unnecessary store trips for one random item—and you know what? It felt liberating. For once, I wasn’t rushing from task to task. I had time to savor those moments, and it was peaceful.

2. Mental Clarity Is Powerful

Let me geek out for a second. Your brain operates like a computer’s Random Access Memory (RAM). Every task, worry, or lingering to-do takes up valuable mental space, even if you’re not actively thinking about it. It’s like having 43 apps open on your phone, each silently draining your brains bandwidth.

When I simplified my life and closed those “apps”—like unreturned packages, incomplete projects, or unresolved emotions—I freed up mental bandwidth. Suddenly, I had space for creative ideas, deeper emotional insights, and even moments of pure mental silence.

3. Guilt Lost Its Grip

If you’re like me, guilt—about not doing enough, missing events, or wasting time—might weigh heavily on you. Initially, saying no to outings and doing less made me feel guilty. But over time, that guilt faded. I realized I didn’t need to justify my choices or overextend myself to feel “accomplished.” By creating space in my schedule, I had the energy to focus on what truly mattered—working out, eating well, pursuing my passions, and simply being.

Simplifying Your 2025

I’m not saying you should neglect responsibilities or become a hermit. Instead, focus on clearing the noise to make room for what brings you joy and fulfillment. Reconnect with the 13-year-old version of yourself—the kid who dreamed of hobbies and adventures but lacked the time, money, or freedom to pursue them.

This year, bring those dreams back. Simplify, declutter, and create space for a life that feels authentically yours.
