Take the Break Before You Think You Need It
The Quest of Life
Weekly Newsletter by Quest Taylor

Hey y’all—
It’s been a few weeks since I sent out a newsletter. Life got busy. Travel, work, decisions, burnout creeping up on the edges.
So I’m making a small change.
Instead of trying to tackle three ideas in one newsletter, I’m shifting to shorter, one-topic editions. Less pressure, more consistency. More real-time moments, fewer polished essays.
Let’s try it.
The Break You Didn’t Realize You Needed
I’m writing this from a beach bar here in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua—on a trip I booked three days before I left.
Originally, I was supposed to be on a work trip this week. That got bumped. Then I realized I had back-to-back travel coming up. East Coast to see friends, then events back in Colorado once summer hits. Every weekend was filling up. Workdays were packed. Big life decisions (like where to move in August) were looming.
And I thought:
If I don’t take a break now, when will I?
So I booked a flight on Friday and left on Monday.
I didn’t come here to check something off a list. I didn’t come to “make the most of it.”
Honestly, I’ve done very little.
Just surfing in the mornings. Talking to strangers. Napping. Laughing. Watching the sunset. Letting the days unfold however they want to.
And yesterday, while sitting at a treehouse café with some new friends, I realized:
I’m completely content with doing… nothing.
No pressure to make it productive. No guilt. Just stillness.
That’s the kind of rest I didn’t know I needed.
A Question for You
Look at your calendar right now.
Do your weekends already feel full?
Are your weekdays starting to blur?
Is your brain spinning on decisions you haven’t made yet?
If so—this is your sign.
Not to plan a big vacation. Not to go off the grid.
But maybe just to schedule a long weekend. Somewhere quiet, peaceful, and without all the hustle and bustle of normal life.
Before you hit the wall.
Before you need it.
Before life gets even louder.
Because rest isn’t just recovery.
It’s space. To think. Or to finally stop thinking.
See you next week,
— Quest
